The 138th Canton Fair (Autumn 2025) is currently in full swing in Guangzhou. As one of the most influential and comprehensive trade platforms in the world, this year’s fair showcases new trends in exhibition format, participant structure, and trade models — highlighting China’s shift from “broad display” to “deep connection” in foreign trade. With the advancement of digitalization, globalization, and supply chain optimization, the traditional on-site exhibition model is rapidly being replaced by a more efficient hybrid approach combining online and offline engagement with targeted appointment-based meetings, significantly enhancing professionalism and operational efficiency.
According to official data, the 137th Canton Fair attracted 187,450 buyers from Belt and Road countries, accounting for about 64.9% of total overseas buyers, while 51,862 buyers came from traditional Western markets — an increase of only 3.4%. The overall trend shows that emerging market buyers are taking a growing share in global trade, with Southeast Asia, South Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America becoming the main drivers of export growth. In terms of buyer composition, there has been a notable rise in cross-border e-commerce platforms and small-to-medium importers, in addition to traditional large retailers, distributors, and brand purchasers. Moreover, the 137th session saw 171,750 first-time visitors and over 500,000 online buyers participating through digital platforms. This demonstrates that the dual-track “online + offline” model has become the new normal of the Canton Fair, greatly improving transaction precision and efficiency.
A noteworthy development this year is the changing behavior of international buyers. Unlike previous years when they primarily visited exhibitions to find factories, many now prefer to learn about suppliers and products in advance via official websites and social media, then arrange in-person meetings at the fair. This approach makes communication more focused and productive. At the same time, a considerable number of buyers now choose to visit manufacturing bases directly instead of relying solely on trade fairs — reflecting a shift from passive showcasing to active selection, with greater emphasis on efficiency and compatibility in business cooperation.
