Wetness Indicator Design: A Thoughtful Upgrade for Adult Diapers!
The wetness indicator function in adult diapers is a user-friendly innovation in modern hygiene care products, designed to help caregivers or users determine whether the diaper is wet and needs changing. Through intuitive color changes, this feature greatly improves care efficiency, reduces the risk of skin irritation and infections, and has become an essential part of incontinence care for adults. Currently, the market primarily offers two types of wetness indicator technologies: conventional wetness indicators and ink wetness indicators.
Conventional wetness indicators generally refer to hot-melt wetness indicator adhesives, created by combining hot-melt glue with substances that are sensitive to pH changes. These adhesives are typically applied as lines on the side of the backsheet facing the absorbent core. When urine wets the core and reaches the indicator layer, the pH changes, causing the color to change—usually transitioning from yellow to green to blue—providing a visual cue of the diaper's wetness. These wetness indicators are highly stable, unaffected by temperature or humidity, and made from environmentally friendly, non-toxic materials suitable for long-term use.
Ink wetness indicators work by incorporating colored molecules into the ink. When urine comes into contact with the ink, it washes away these molecules, causing the color to disappear and signaling the need for a change. The advantages of this method include highly visible color changes that are easy to identify, and customizable printed patterns that enhance brand recognition and product appeal. However, this type is more prone to fading due to friction and is gradually being replaced by hot-melt indicators. Additionally, the cost of ink indicators tends to be higher.
